How Do I Use My Own Fonts?

Your fonts are the typefaces you bring to Rideful: the ones your imported presentations carry and the font files you upload. They are listed under “Your fonts” in the font picker of every deck you edit, and picking one adds it to that deck, where it renders for everyone and is embedded when you export to PowerPoint.

Rideful's own library covers Google Fonts, the Office fonts and the fonts every system has. A brand typeface is none of those, so Rideful keeps a second list that belongs to you: Your fonts. Only you and the agent working for you see it, and it follows you from deck to deck.

Where Your Fonts Come From

  • Presentations you import. When a .pptx, .potx or .potm file embeds a font, the deck keeps it, and a font you may install and reuse also joins Your fonts, so your next blank deck can use it too.
  • Font files you upload. Upload the .ttf or .woff2 files of your brand font from the font picker.

Duplicating a deck, creating one from a template, or being shared one adds nothing to Your fonts. Those decks still carry their own fonts, listed under “This deck”.

Which Imported Fonts Join

Not every font a file embeds may be reused. An imported font joins Your fonts only when both are true:

  • Its licence lets you install it. A font marked for use only with its document (preview & print, or editable embedding) stays in that deck. A font whose licence forbids embedding is not kept at all.
  • It is complete. PowerPoint often embeds only the characters a presentation uses. That font draws the deck it came in, but not new text in another deck, so it stays in its deck. Upload the full font file to use it elsewhere.

A font Rideful's library already has never joins: the library's own files already draw it.

How to Upload a Font

  1. Select some text and open the font picker, in the text toolbar or the properties panel.
  2. Scroll to Your fonts and click Upload font… at the end of the section. It shows whenever the search box is empty, even before you have any fonts.
  3. Choose one or more .ttf or .woff2 files, up to 20 MB each. A family's Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold Italic files become one font with four styles, whether you upload them together or one at a time.

Uploading only adds the font to Your fonts. Pick it from the list to use it.

Each file holds one style. Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold Italic fill the four styles of a family, the ones the bold and italic buttons switch between. Any other weight becomes a font of its own, named as the file names it: the Light file of a family called Acme Sans becomes “Acme Sans Light”, as PowerPoint names it too.

Uploading the same file again changes nothing. A new file for a style you already have replaces it in Your fonts, and decks you add the font to from then on get the new file; decks that already use the font keep theirs.

Files Rideful Can't Take

A file that can't be used is listed with its reason when the upload ends; the rest of the batch is still added.

  • WOFF (version 1) and other formats — upload the .ttf or .woff2 version.
  • Font collections (.ttc) — several fonts in one file; upload each style as its own .ttf.
  • PostScript (CFF) outlines — many .otf files. Upload the font's TrueType (.ttf) version. A .otf file with TrueType outlines is accepted.
  • Variable fonts — one file holding every weight. Upload the family's static Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold Italic files instead.
  • Fonts whose licence forbids embedding — Rideful can't put them in a presentation.
  • Fonts Rideful's library already has — pick them from the library directly.

Only upload fonts your licence lets you embed in documents. Rideful refuses a font marked as not embeddable, but the rest of your licence is yours to check.

What Picking a Font Does

Picking a font from Your fonts adds it to the deck you are editing. From then on it is the deck's own font, listed under “This deck”:

  • Everyone who opens the deck sees it, including collaborators and viewers who don't have it in their own Your fonts.
  • It is embedded in the PowerPoint export, so the file renders in it on a computer that has never installed it. Keynote and Google Slides ignore embedded fonts and show a substitute.
  • It travels with the deck when you duplicate it or make a template from it.
  • Any agent working on the deck can use it, a collaborator's included: the agent lists a deck's own fonts.

On a template's page, picking one of your fonts as a theme font adds it to the template, so every deck made from the template carries it.

It doesn't matter which section you pick it from: a font from Your fonts picked under Recently Used is added the same way. If the deck already has a font of that name, the deck's own copy is used and nothing is added.

Removing a Font

Hover a font under Your fonts and click ×, then confirm. It leaves Your fonts in every deck's picker. Decks that already use it keep it under “This deck”, and render and export it as before.

Common Questions

  • Can my team share one set of fonts? Not yet. Your fonts are yours. A colleague uses your font through a deck you added it to; team font libraries may come later.
  • I imported a presentation before and its fonts aren't in Your fonts. Fonts join when a file is imported. Import it again to add them, or upload the font files.
  • Why is my brand font not in Your fonts after an import? The file embedded only the characters it used, or the font's licence limits it to that document. Upload the full font file.
  • Can the agent use my fonts? Yes. Ask for your brand font or your own fonts, in Rideful's chat or in an AI assistant connected to Rideful, and the agent sets text in the one you name. Using a font adds it to the deck as a pick does, so a new deck the agent creates can start in it. The agent can't upload a font: upload the files from the font picker first.
